News is noteworthy information about current and/or important events happening in the world. The eight elements that make news newsworthy are timeliness, prominence, proximity, significance, unusualness, human interest, conflict, newness. I believe pop culture should definitely be considered news because it falls under the element of “prominence” and sometimes “novelty.” Most of the pop culture entertainment is full of celebrities and big organizations that create entertainment news that people are interested in hearing about. This value of newsworthiness feeds into our need to know what is going on with organizations and celebrities ( Wilcox & Reber, 2016).
